prison letters

i'm not sure if anyone will know the answer to this.

if you write a letter to someone who is in prison, is it copied onto some sort of system/photocopied? is a record made of who wrote to who on what day?

i know that they read them. im just wondering whether they record who writes in to prisoners thats all.
Beep boop. I'm a bot.

Hmm, doesn't seem easy to find anything on this. I'd imagine that Release would probably be able to tell you if you called them on - 0845 4500 215

Primarily they focus on drugs law but I understand they are pretty good about human rights issues, which this falls under.

You could also contact the legal advisors on asktheSite, who should be able to find out for you.

All names and addresses from letters are recorded.
Anything of note means the whole letter gets photocopied.
If you send a letter without a return address on...the inmate often doesn't get it or know anything about it.
If the screws are in a good mood they might let you read it in their office and then it's destroyed.

    Yup.
If they didn't and someone escaped ...killed someone ...

Oh sorry we never thought to keep an eye on him/her.

It's a secure environment in every sense of the word.

While on topic, here's a thought: Do inmates get access online - web, mail, IM? Of course, all online activity to be monitored.

    Fucking hope not.

They're there as a punishment, not to surf the net with my tax dollars.

Surely they wouldn't have the intrnet in prisons anyway? It's like at schools- I've noticed there is never a mobile signal.
