Yarn weight?

If I'm using DK yarn, but using 2 strands held together, what weight of yarn would this equate to?

DK is 8ply, so would this equate to 16ply? Or does it not quite work like that?

If I followed a pattern I'd just have to work out the gauge (always lazy so tend not to do this unless very necessary, and working out crochet gauge confuses my small brain!)

In my experience, double stranding DK approximately gives you a chunky weight :)

Ah I thought it would probably work out like that, thank you :)

It's not an exact science, but as a rough guide it works ok!

I find there's quite a bit of variation between different yarns of the same weight anyway.
