Poetry offensive to sensitivities?

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
I notice that the thread containing the poetry was not simply locked, but removed in total.

Someone get their panties all bunched up? Offensive to respect warriors, whatever the nation of origin? Or just because I started the thread?

    maybe because it wasn't at all relevant? Apart from that I have no idea, maybe the Mods just don't like poetry. You're more likely to get a response if you e-mail them, they rarely respond to posts like this one.

    The mods do not respond to Email or private messages from me. Have gone months on end without responses... :rolleyes:

    MUCH more likely to get a ressponse from a public inquirey...

    Maybe they just don't like poetry, none of us being American veterans means it is quite difficult for us to relate to it.

    You aren't veterans of our wars but US be veterans of YOURS!

    Might want to give it a thought...!

    I haven't had an email or a PM from you for about a year Thanatos.

    My panties are fine thanks.

    Anyways, I deleted the thread. It was just a long, uncredited passage of text, of dubious interest to an online community (mainly) for young British people. Perhaps the fact that it was up for over a day and no one replied to it says something...

    You had one Email every week for months - which you ignored - until I bypassed your security and re-registered anyway, because you chose not to respond to the constant Email.

    Thread was deleted in about six hours (posted about 11pm my time, deleted before 6am my time), and I received some private messages and Email, supportive of the message within the thread.

    If you would answer the Email, this would need not be a public airing... ;)

    Maybe this is more relevant....

    Tommy

    I went into a public-'ouse to get a pint o' beer,
    The publican 'e up an' sez, "We serve no red-coats here."
    The girls be'ind the bar they laughed an' giggled fit to die,
    I outs into the street again an' to myself sez I:
    ..........O it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, go away";
    ..........But it's "Thank you, Mister Atkins," when the band begins to play -
    ..........The band begins to play, my boys, the band begins to play,
    ..........O it's "Thank you, Mister Atkins," when the band begins to play.

    I went into a theatre as sober as could be,
    They gave a drunk civilian room, but 'adn't none for me;
    They sent me to the gallery or round the music-'alls,
    But when it comes to fightin', Lord! they'll shove me in the stalls!
    ..........For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, wait outside";
    ..........But it's "Special train for Atkins" when the trooper's on the tide -
    ..........The troopship's on the tide, my boys, the troopship's on the tide,
    ..........O it's "Special train for Atkins" when the trooper's on the tide.

    Yes, makin' mock o' uniforms that guard you while you sleep
    Is cheaper than them uniforms, an' they're starvation cheap;
    An' hustlin' drunken soldiers when they're goin' large a bit
    Is five times better business than paradin' in full kit.
    ..........Then it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, 'ow's yer soul?"
    ..........But it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll -
    ..........The drums begin to roll, my boys, the drums begin to roll,
    ..........O it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll.

    We aren't no thin red 'eroes, nor we aren't no blackguards too,
    But single men in barricks, most remarkable like you;
    An' if sometimes our conduck isn't all your fancy paints,
    Why, single men in barricks don't grow into plaster saints;
    ..........While it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, fall be'ind,"
    ..........But it's "Please to walk in front, sir," when there's trouble in the wind -
    ..........There's trouble in the wind, my boys, there's trouble in the wind,
    ..........O it's "Please to walk in front, sir," when there's trouble in the wind.

    You talk o' better food for us, an' schools, an' fires, an' all:
    We'll wait for extry rations if you treat us rational.
    Don't mess about the cook-room slops, but prove it to our face
    The Widow's Uniform is not the soldier-man's disgrace.
    ..........For it's Tommy this an' Tommy that, an' "Chuck him out, the brute!"
    ..........But it's "Saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot;
    ..........An' it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' anything you please;
    ..........An' Tommy ain't a bloomin' fool - you bet that Tommy sees!

    What most civilians do not understand is that Warriors respect other Warriors, regardless of the nation of origin. Also, there is a difference between those who have served or do serve in the military, and those who have earned the appelation WARRIOR...

    There are a couple of Brits who served with the Aussies during Vn that I consider friends, and they have my deepest respect.

    There are striking similarities between William Wallace and Geronimo, and I respect them both.

    The thread which was vaporized was not simply about US service men (and women), but ALL Warriors who have paid the tab for the freedom we enjoy...

    Never suggested there was a "conspiracy", but there is an obvious prejudice, and that would appear an hypocracy to the "politically correct" agenda hereabouts... ;)
