Coverting Video to DivX / Xvid

I'm creating some nice slideshows of my photos - and can produce nice crisp looking MPEG Files - but want to convert them to DivX / Xvid

But I'm not happy with the results - the quality isn't as good as the original MPEG video and the colours are too red.

I want something that can easily convert from MPEG and maybe do multipasses to get the quality up.

Any suggestions of something easy to use?

For your requirements I would tend to sway towards paid programs..

Even then some of them aren't that good.

I think Sony Vegas is apparently very good at this kind of coverting.

I don't really know about this stuff, but if it's just still images couldn't you just set the bitrate really high to force the quality up?
