I use the GIMP when Photoshop isn't available, but Photoshop is vastly superior. Especially for layers, groups etc.

How do you know the proper download is slow if you haven't paid for it?

Adobe is becoming overrated these days. They could have done a whole lot better with the CS4 suite. these days it's becoming the norm for people to use, even for simple at home editing. Even if it's just someone editing a photo to pop onto their myspace, be arsed. It's not using it to it's fullest potential which is what it was meant for. It is being downgraded each day it's used for simple shit. It's okay but I wouldn't say it's the best. Corel is a good alternative, though it is harder to work with compared to Photoshop.

edit: After checking the site again, I see Photoshop Express. I remember reading about that about a year before it was even coded, then I used the beta, and what I explained above is what that is for. Adobe know their programs are being used illegally for lame stuff like that, they need to advertise it more I think. They need a better registration/activation too.

Just to point out too, doesn't that Splashup look like Photoshop? Surprised they haven't got sued.

There is a cross of GIMP / Photoshop at www.gimpshop.com.

If you do want to use CS4, you will have to find a way to crack it....

    amtlib.dll....

Photoshop Elements is more realisitically priced, and covers most stuff that the everyday user would want to do. Photoshop CS is expensive because businesses use it.

    Does Photoshop really cost £500?
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,324 The Mix Honorary Guru
I have and use Gimp at times, good program, especially on Linux,

Grace, Photoshop CS4, the new one is about £500-600
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Adobe-Systems-Inc-Photoshop-CS4/dp/B001G8Y7IG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=software&qid=1262582558&sr=8-2

The one I have is even more.
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Adobe-CS4-Master-Collection-PC/dp/B001G8Y72C/ref=dp_ob_title_sw?ie=UTF8&qid=1262582599&sr=8-7

The reason it is pricey is it is more of a commercial piece of software, ie. Businesses who will make money from it are using it. Photoshop is not really seen as a residential/private piece of software but it is sold as. but then again for a piece of software that can make you a lot of money it isn't too pricey imo.

I think £500 for Photoshop is stupid, specially with the fact you can illegally download it faster, yes download it faster and for free.
Which is weird, £500 for something, you'd expect speedy downloads, oh no.

I'm an online pirate what can i say, im 15 with no credit card.. what else can i do?

GIMP, weird opens multiple windows, very stupid design.
Paint.NET nice bit of kit concidering it's free

    only 2 i've tried.

They don't care about 15 year olds stealing it.

The reason its expensive is because the 15 year olds learning to use it today will become the graphic designers of tomorrow, and when Microsoft puts out a tender for a new marketing campaign for Windows 10 and you say you need photoshop which costs £500.. they'll say yea fine whatever.

You can change the behaviour of GIMP btw, its extremely customisable. You may just be more used to photoshop though.

    I personally use paint.NET / picasa.
