Mornington Crescent

Does anyone fancy a game?
Flange rules. No Ivanov variation on the diagonal.
I'll start with 'Sloane Square'.
(If you don't know how to play, just have a go - you'll soon get the hang of it)

Well, I think the most obvious way from there is Oxford Circus...

Brompton Road, as permitted by the 1995 Shanghai Ammendment.

It's been I while since I last played this...

theydon bois? that's a village and clearly not on the board.
Stick to the rules. Ivanov variation, remember.
I'm not entirely confident in this one, buit what the hell - Picadilly Circus.

Theydon Bois is on the Central line before Epping and even if it wasn't what about the Blunquist Precendent of 1986?

I think I'm going go for Holland Park.

    my fault. sorry.
    East Cheam?

If you refer to the 39th edition, Blunquist was overruled by the 1987 Madonna Settlement. But the original argument for Theydon Bois still holds.

I'm going to emulate Krishnoff in the 1972 Moscow final and make a move for Bank at this point.

    sorry, no - bank.

blast, changed my move but a second too late. complacent.
    Edgware road.

But Krishnoff's move was then found to be unsafe and he rescinded it in place of Elephant and Castle. You're playing a dangerous game here.

    Brilliant recovery though Prufrock.

I'm going to have to go on the defensive with Heathrow Terminals 1,2,3.

that's as maybe, but I still say Edgware road.
I'm not just winging it, you know. I have a plan.

Maida Vale? That's cheeky but I like it.

This is a tough game, and although it's unsual to bring out the Paris Treaty of 1923 (Ammended 1956) so early on, I think I'm going to have to just to regain the ground I've already lost.

    Gare du Nord.

Oh come on! The Paris Treaty was a blatent attempt by Du Pres to circumvent the negative angulation rule.

... Sorry I'm just reread you post. The '56 Ammendment stands

    Marble Arch.

I refuse to accept that Du Pres was as corrupt as is made out.

    New Cross Gate.

New Cross Gate was excluded after the 1993 Harris controversy

I think you'll find Kensington High Street fits the bill.

    ;)

Corrupt? The man was an advocate for premptive overground strategy. You don't get more corrupt than that.

He dropped the calls for overground inclusion after the Berrington Disaster in 1959. That catastophe sure changed a lot of views in the gaming community.

    Morden.

I take your point, a lot of thing changed after Berrington. But I still maintain he only dropped it because of pressure from the prolongation lobbyists.

By the way, Kentish - good call on the Harris Controversy. I have to admit that totally passed me by.

    Wapping - diversive but effective.

Wapping is an interesting choice, and can only really be followed with the Oval (one of Dick Newman's favourite moves I believe)

I see what you're trying to do with the oval, and it isn't going to work. You forget, as so many do, about the Harrap gambit, perfected by Horton in that classic all-england final of '96. The Oval opens up the bilateral shift and suddenly you're in real, real trouble. (have you got Perryman's Mornington Crescent Compendium? it's a mine of useful information like that. I'm thinking also of the Androtti-Unsworth-Nolan classic match of the late 80s, also annotaed by Perryman.)
anyway - embankment. Now do you see your mistake?

Has to be The Palaria Swingback: tried and tested.

    Logically - Hackney Wick.
