Credit rating and careership loans

In a few years time I'd like to do a Masters and maybe one day a PHD. However, I am from a low income background and will have to get a loan...

I am currently on very low wages and I can't extend my over draft because of my credit history. My friend says the only way to improve it is to get a loan, or credit card... Thing is, I have been so far very good with money, but apparently that doesn't matter... Also, apparently the fact I have moved house as a student too many times affects it.

So how do careership loans work? or could I get a graduate loan?

Does my credit rating affect these?
