Recording music on a PC

Hey guys

Basically I'm recording a few songs on my PC. So far I've got the backing tracks downloaded, now I need a microphone and to put the vocal on the backing track.

1) What's the best sort of microphone to get and where would I get it from on the high street?

2) Been told it's best if I record the vocal then mix it onto the backing track. Sounds like a right pain (timing issues etc) but if I NEED to do this what's the best way to go about it? Is there a way just to record onto the backing track? Also what program should I use?

Cheers in advance :thumb:

I'm not too up on mic's as I don't use them for my production.

As for using vocals over the backing track, the best program you can get is Melodyne. It might take a bit of getting used to but its amazing for that kinda thing....

here is a youtube vid of what it can do:

I use to for stretching vocals over tracks and once you know what your doing is so easy and quick to do.

It works on any sounds as well, not just vocals.
