Fixed term contract - can you leave?

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
This might be a daft question but if someone is being taken on for maternity cover for a fixed contract of 9-12 months but they find another job in that time, can they leave? I'm sure they can but just need to check!

This job is through a temping agency by the way.

Thanks

Generally there would be a notice period.

Of course it might vary depending on the job.

You can't be forced to work, but it might look a bit crap on your CV if you leave without notice.

ok that's fine. They would only be leaving if they had another (better and permanent) job in place.

As opposed to what, being tied up in the office forever? Of course they can leave its a free country!
