Jumper knitting!

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Has anyone ever knitted a jumper? I've got to the stage where I can do all the stitches and I want to move onto a bigger project than hats, mittens and ipod covers.

For anyone who has knitted a sweater, where did you get the pattern from? Did it fit you ok? Was it difficult. Do you have a picture or even a pattern you could share with me!

Yeah, I knitted a woolen sweater last winter and it was so much easier than I dared hope. I however meant for it to be a zipper sweater and don't know how to sew so yeah, I've not worn it. :p Plan to fix it before winter, I love stingy wool against my skin when it's cold.

It's a traditional Icelandic pattern modified to look less baggy and basically I'm knitting in circles, round and round and round. :p

ooh jaloux that looks great!! id wear that any day
.. .. (well, maybe not ANY day, when its cold maybe!! :D)

i wish i could knit jumpers. im pathetic at knitting.
i can do it, but i always miss stiches and end up with holes

or in the last case - i tried making a scarf - ended up doing about, maybe 2 foot of it, and realised that the end i started on was a 3rd of the width of the thing at the other end. little did i realise that id been adding in stiches each line that i went up  that was a disaster. would have been a nice scarf too i reckon!!

I'm not even vaguely up to making a jumper level... I'm going to start a blanket for a friend who's pregnant's baby soon, and that seems bad enough! All that shaping and concentrating on a jumper doesn't really appeal just yet!

    Thats really impressive Jaloux!!

Have you joined Ravelry yet? So easy to find a million patterns. I want to try my hand out at some clothing, when I find some yarn (the hardest part for me, I'm so cheap :p) I want to make http://www.garnstudio.com/lang/en/visoppskrift.php?d_nr=95&d_id=12&lang=enFirefoxHTML\Shell\Open\Command

    Wow Jaloux that's amazing!

I haven't joined ravelry yet I'm waiting for my invitation!

There's lots of patterns on the internet but I would prefer a tried and tested one!

Jaloux did you knit it in the round on circular needles or the front and back separately on straight needles?

That is gorgeous. I must learn how to knit.

Out of interest how much would the wool etc cost for that? Are we talking that jumper for a couple of quid or 20?

I want simple but flattering (and not too complicated!!). These are my two faves at the mo

Its so hard to find a nice simple chunky jumper! They've all got funny necks or fancy bits, and there's never any nice squashy keep warm jumpers!

Anything between the two! Get the cheapest and you're probably talking £6 or £7 depending on your size and how tight the knitting is. Get posh wool and you could spend a load more

But some things can be made very cheap. I bought 100g of wool for £1 and one mitten hasn't even made a dent in it. I'm expecting to get another mitten, a hat and a scarf out of it easily.

I sort of put off replying when I originally saw this and then forgot. Wooops!

That sweater is all done on circular needles. The only thing that wasn't were the cuffs of the sleeves which were done with double pointed needles.

Here's a pic I took of a different project (a blanket for my horse) but it's the same principle, all on circular and you just make provisions for the shape and size:

    Piccie

The only thing that I found complicated with my sweater was the stitching of the armpits when I had to attatch the sleeves to the torso. I cheated and had mom do that since she's more knowledgable. :p
