McDonalds/MacDonalds

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Is it spelled with an A over there, or in other parts of the world? I see it spelled that way all the time here (on this site)... in a time where everybody is skipping letters when they type, seems strange to add one :p

Here too, no A (except after the N).

MC e.g. McDonalds - is the Scottish way of spelling the family/clan name, whereas MAC e.g. MacDonalds - is used in Ireland for family names, I believe. (May be wrong!)
Might be something to do with you Americans searching for every drop of Irish blood you have in you. ;)

Mac is Gaelic for son, so "son of Donald". Mc is just a shortened or anglicised version of it.

I'd pronounce it Macdonalds even though it's spelt McDonalds but if it was a person's surname I'd pronounce it Mcdonald.

Argh I'm really hungry but I don't like McDonalds so now I'm craving Burger King, or just any burger really with cheese and pickles and loads of sauce, and I'm considering going to tesco after work just to buy burgers, or even get one from the takeaway even though there's a super-healthy stir-fry at home waiting to be eaten aaarghh :(

Damn you and your McDonalds thread making me hungry. Actually damn Burger King for being 10 miles away :(

I realise that was technically wrong as i've never been to antarctica - though i'm sure there isn't actually a mc donalds there either!

I probably shouldn't think so much about burgers
