Tax on first job

Hey i've just got myself my first job part time at a local hotel as a waiter and i'm quite enjoying it, now after a month i've got paid which is great (shopping time!)

I've just got my payslip and i earned £63.55 for the few days i worked at the end of that month (get paid monthly) but i've had £12.60 taken off of that due to tax (works out at 20%)

Now my mum and dad swear blind i shouldn't be getting taxed and that its going to sort itself out but i thought id come here to ask you guys your opinion!

My tax code is listed as "BR" here by the way.

Thanks guys.
