Do England still stand a chance of winning?I mean, our players are dropping like flies;is it just by chance,or are they being takien out purposely....looks like the work of our dirty playin Argentinian rivals if you ask me.....

Of course we will...we're English!!!

We'll keep on fighting to the end (probably literally aswell ), but we still stand a chance cos we have Sven managing the greatest football team in the world!!!

We haven't got a chance!!

Although I really am behind England and theres the faint hope we could, I dont think there really ever was a chance.

When I look at the team there are some class players- Scholes, Beckham, Owen too name three but when I look at Argentina, France or say Italy I see a whole team of class players.
Upfront for instance Owen is obviously top-notch but Vassell, Heskey?? OK Fowler is a great finisher but look at the Italians- Montella, Vieri, Delvecchio, Del Piero, Totti etc. The French with Trezeguet, Henry, Cisse and as for the Argentinians upfront with the likes of Crespo and Batistuta. I dont think we are anywhere near those teams and thats only in one position. The likes of Hargreaves, Sinclair may be superb in domestic leagues but when they come up against Aimar, Tommassi, Vieira, Zidane, Figo, Rivaldo (I could go on for ages) I dont see them getting anywhere near them.
OK we are pretty solid at the back you'd hope but the wingbacks taking Mills and Cole here, they are pretty good going forward but I fear their defensive capabilities.

I mean believe me I am rooting for the boys as much as anyone, but I cant see it happening- if we get through the group then as they say- anybody can beat anybody, but I dont believe we can go all the way.

I cant see the english 'fighting spirit' being enough. Who Knows though

Yes I agree about each team having their own strengths but some teams appear too be stronger in all areas which isnt good.

Our midfield can be good if they were all fit and if Gerrard had been here we would have had a superb midfield- I do agree with you about Joe Cole though, I have feeling hes going too make a big impression given the chance.

And maybe you are right about Vassell too- Im just not convinced- theres a lot of people singing his praises but I think its a bit early for that. I will give him the benefit of the doubt as there arent too many strikers who could have taken his place. Cole, Jansen and Phillips were the only real contenders it would seem.

And I also agree (again ) about the first round thing- get through that and we have a shout- hope so anyway.

Firstly out of the best starting eleven only Gerrard will be 100% absent, Murphy would never of started so it matters not if he is injured as far as I'm concerned.

Whoever mentioned the French and Argies, well yes they have strong attacks, but defensivly they look suspect, the French are also strugglking in midfield, beyond Zidane and Viera they are struggling

The Argies look awful in defense, the Germans have way more injuries than us, the brazilizns aren't the team they once were, although still a very good side, the Italians look good on paper, but their system doesn't provide much of an attacking threat as always, the spanish have a superb side on paper, but then they always do.

We have the youngest team, all we can do is have a go, we may not have the best individuals, but we have a good team ethic under Sven, if we get a few breaks then we can go a long way

We'll surprise a few teams I think.

Some players particularly Joe and Ash Cole, Hargreaves, Vassell and Dyer (should he play) have the chance to really prove themselves. If Joe Cole has a good World Cup West Ham will have try and keep hold of him... (although I think he needs to be playing in the Champions League soon)

I think we could win it. We are far from favourites to win it but on our day we could do it. We've proved against Germany what a quality team we can be. We have since proved a few times we can still be poor. On our day we can beat anyone in the World so in theory we could win it. However, there isn't a huge amount of experience in the squad. Players like Hargreaves, the Utd and Liverpool lads need to give good examples.

We are capable of winning it, as are about 6 other teams, although if we actually do is completely different...

I agree about the Germans- they wont be contenders this time around, I just hope I dont regret saying that

I think France are pretty good at thr back- Candela, Christanval,Desailly, Leboeuf, Lizarazu, Sagnol, Silvestre and Thuram looks pretty strong.
Argentina arent as strong at the back I agree although the partnership of Ayala and Samuel looks pretty steady on paper.

In my opinion Id go for Brazil or Italy. Everyones saying Brazil arent what they were but on their day they could have a chance. Lucio at the back had a good season at leverkusen and with Roque Junio joining him and Cafu and Carlos as wingbacks I dont think they look TOO bad at the back. And as for them going forward, they have so much flair and ability that if it all comes together I fancy them too go a long way.
And Italy as you say have never been the most attacking but they play nice football, are very strong at the back and are technically a great side who I feel can give anyone a game on their day.

But still, the work ethic, as you said, is good under Sven and hopefully we can go a long way. After all it is the World Cup and anything could and probably will happen.

Of course we will win, who could beat us?

We don't need a midfield, 5 defenders and 5 strikers should do the trick!

Now that you put it like that! Some good points there which could give us half a chance.

Not long now folks. I'm really upbeat about the whole thing, or maybe its this Drum and Base on Radio 1 Whatever it is, I can't wait!

Hi Kirsty!! YES WE CAN WIN!! I will hire sum1 to assassinate the argentinian players an then we will cruise past them. I think Germany don't have much of a chance this time. I think there might be sum upsets. If we get through the 1st round we will definately get into the semis.

Zidane would be back by the time England played them.
I dont think France are the team some people make out them too be personally, so playing them wouldnt such a tragedy in my opinion

maybe a pesimist-- but lets be honest-- not a chance! i know people have had a go at me 4 lookin at the warm up games-- but we should be beating korea at that stage if we've got any chance---svens done a gd job, but he was brought in fAr too late to realistically have a chance to go all the way

So, because France lost to Belgium last week does that mean they've got no chance ?

I recall a friendly with Holland at White Hart Lane, he fucked about with the team and formation, we got a good beating, everybody was moaning about how we weren't that good blah blah blah, thhen when it mattered we hammered germany 5-1

Our team on paper looks strong, we'll have no injuries all been well, have a little belief

Easier for everyone else but a World Cup without two of the best teams in the world? Good for everyone else though :D.

*bitch slap after the first sentence*

Brazil are looking damn good at the moment. They go forward very very well and look bad defensively. They are just so exciting to watch as a neutral as they play by simply outscoring the opposition (if you score 2 we'll get 3). England could play em in the quarters. Anyone who can simply stop them scoring will beat them. As for the last sentence - you can only beat what in front of you ;)
