I've been away a while and done something stupid! I broke the bone in my leg... i think its the fibia or tibia... cant remember. i came back a week ago and i am so peeved coz my leg is in a fiber glass cast and i cant do sport or anything. before i had the accident i was working real hard on toning up and now its all going to pot. are there exercises i can do that will prevent my fitness from deteriating too much and maintain a small amount of tone? i dont fancy starting from scratch when the cast comes off.

cheers me dears!

    Wondered where you'd got too......

    Ok here goes:

    Upper body weights of course

swimming will have to wait until the cast comes off unfotunatly unless you want to go and get one of those great big waterproof covers - not worth it in your case.

Upper body rowing - use a rowing machine but just generating power from the upper body - or going rowing for real!

One footed squats - will help keep your other leg fit.

    Arm dips

Pressups - just lie over the edge of your bed, with the top of your leg down on the bed and do pressups. Do loads more reps as it's loads more easier.

    Chinups

See if you can find a swimming pool that does kayaking? I wouldn't do it open water though...

Ther'es plenty of things you can do.

Also, see if you can get them to give you a racing wheel chair - I borrowed a mates once, GREAT FUN!!! and bloody tiring too.

    Owww!

Sorry to hear of your troubles Tinkabee. I've been in a cast before and it's no picnic. Especially when it itches underneath.

So I would suggest all that Alistair has. In addition, have you considered abdominal exercises?

You should be able to do them even with a broken tibia.

Leg raises or side situps are very good and shouldn't affect the healing of your legs at all. Plus they'll help tone your stomach up real well.

If you have anymore questions, I'll be around.

    Hope you heal quickly!

Why not ask your physio? Surely they would be best placed to give you advice whilst considering your injury. They are the experts afterall...

    ROFLMAO

What always makes me laugh is the way it is "revolutionary, new" and when people call it an oxygen tent....
