Ok, i was stupid and got caught doing 40mph in a 30mph.
As it happens ive still got 6 points from a few years ago (maybe i should say STILL stupid)
anyway, am i right in thinking its 3points? and maximum of £1000 fine?
will i be fined that much or are theyre different scales for severity?
How much will i be fined?
40 in a 30
6 points already
thank you

Yeah i think that pretty much bog standard.
I've just got my form for my speeding fine for doing 39mph in a 30mph zone.
You get 3 point's and £60 fine! :impissed:
Oh god no. A ban is muuuuuuuuuuch higher.
Oh right! Might start driving faster in that case!
They generally say 36mph over the speed limit for a ban.
Hope youve had your license more than two years!
explain
Its 30% over the speed limit, therefore its the same as doing 93 on the motorway, except because there are actually a lot more hazards on smaller roads its more dangerous. Doing 80 or even 90 in a high end car on the motorway doesnt drastically increase the risk of problems because everyone is going the same way, there arent pedestrians...etc.
Put basically its about stopping distances, at 40 you're unlikely to stop in time, at 30 you may well. I'm of the opinion that 3500 people killed or seriously injured on the roads each year is too many.
The problem is speed doesn't kill, ignorance does. But it's really hard to measure people's ignorance but really easy to measure people's speed. The accidents caused solely by excessive speed are minimal, they are normally a contributing factor or aggravating factor based on other factors (not paying attention to surroudings - hazard perception - tiredness - you name it).
Anyway, that's starting a debate in an advice thread
