how come there's no thread for it?

did anyone watch it?

Which country had the best song? I was camping when it took place but just seen the UK entry on You Tube and the winning one from Russia - didn't think either of them were much good.

The UK gets an automatic entry cos they give so much money to the contest - so there's no real incentive there to even pick a decent song.

How does the UK entry get chosen anyway?

More then anything I'd say you usually need a good tune to get over the fact most nations can't understand the words being sung, although the Russian song was almost all words.

Was Bucks Fizz the last UK entry to actually win the contest?

Katrina and the Waves in 1997 :o

I hasten to add I only know this because I like their 1985 hit 'walking on Sunshine' and was suprised they were still going.

There is a programme on BBC1 about a month before the actual contest and the UK population vote for their favourite act of about 6 who could represent the UK.

Wasn't it Katrina and the waves who was last to win?

Although Katrina was Canadian, the song was written by someone from the UK.

I never knew that i knew so much about this :o

    You're a secret Eurovision nerd .. LOL

The BBC has all the songs from 2008 on it -

I quite like the German song.

It was the usual bullshit in the voting - how did the french and spanish songs get more votes then us, they where rubbish. That was one of our better entries for some years but we'd never do well with it. I liked the finnish and the aberbejanzi songs.

How weird is it that so many of the songs are being sung in English?

It's all political. No western European country will ever win again.

Saying that, I do love Terry Wogan's sarcasm and cynicism :D

I really didn't like the Russian song. And that's not a biased opinion, I don't give a rat's ass about who wins...

The ones I liked the most were from Albania, Norway and Latvia (pirates).

I love Azerbaijan. The first time I saw it I couldn't stop laughing, it was a brilliant performance!

This year wasn't the most memorable one, I didn't like the Russian song the first time I heard it but it's grown on me a lot and I quite like it now. This will sound geeky but I've dug up a russian version of his 2006 Eurovision song and I really like it, haha.

I also enjoyed the Spanish song. It's so super Spanish and got really bizarre lyrics. I don't remember how often I went 'quattro, El Robocop!' through the night after the contest. ;)

    Eurovision is fantastic. :p
