I've always found adidas to be very supportive (I have high arches)

My current pair of gym shoes are actually adidas hiking shoes. They are incredibly lightweight and extremly supportive. I have no idea what makes them hiking shoes... they seem plain and regular to me but thats what they called them. I actually got them off of amazon for about half price during some kind of sale.

Ebay is also great for cheap brand new shoes too. Often about half price of retail I've found.

I wouldn't go for something like that. They're leather, and are basically a fashion trainer. Get something by Asics or New Balance. Here's some. They'll sell them everywhere, but this is the style you're looking for for proper running.

Leather trainers are good however you are better going with something similar to the trainers in the link I'm With Stupid provided. Something by Asics particularly would be better although they can be pricey.

You want something that has the more breathable material on the outside of the shoe, this will also be inside as well. Something with a good arch support and a thick but flexible heel.

These day's sports shops sell decent running shoes for as cheap as £25 quid or thereabouts.

What sort of price are you looking at ?

for running you'll want asics i'd say, they're not a "fashion" brand like adidas and nike can be sometimes, so you know you're getting a pure running shoe. for me, the fit of asics is always good in a 44/45 and they hold up well and offer everything i could ask for...

Hmm. I don't really want to go over £50.

edit: I like these and the idea of a gel cushion!http://www.newitts.com/product/IT023549/Asics_GEL_Enduro_Womens_Running_Shoes.htm

Asics are the best running shoes in my opinion.
You can actually go to a proper running shop and get your running style checked and then they give you the right trainers for your running style.

Go to them and speak with them you can't go wrong. Be sure to browse the whole range on offer though and them all on, you'd be which ones will feel more confortable than others.

They will find you the shoe that will suit your feet and running style. Gel cushion Asics are good running shoes, when we get them in they sell out in a matter of days !

Which is why I said the rivals are better, they are mostly mesh.

Those Rival's are Leather on the outside J with the more suitable lining inside the shoe and over the tongue. Leather running shoes are good in their own right but generally an ALL mesh running shoe is better particularly with the summer weather coming in now they are needed even more.

I just hope they understand I want a second chance ad that people can and do change.

I totally agree with you there.Im hoping I get another chance to go back as I was way too young when I tried basic training and left.

A bit late I know, but Asics really are the best, I have 8 pairs :p

Even better - get your assessment done at one of the running shops as mentioned above (Runner's Need in Holborn will run you on a treadmill, film your feet in action, then fit you for a shoe)...THEN, once you know the size, brand and type of shoe you need, go to a runner's site like wiggle.co.uk and get last year's models at a fraction of the price. I spent £55 on a pair of Asics - the newer versions in Runner's Need would have set me back £110!!

You might also find you can get good running bargains from shops on Ebay, like Runaid bottles, running socks (to avoid blisters) and flat pouches for holding your mp3 player.

    Result!

Got mine done last sunday in MKs running shop and instead of me buying the same old pair of Asics I got myself a brilliant pair of Brooks predator things.
