    Congrats on finishing your course!!!

Graduation is a day about you, so enjoy it first of all!

Expect to have to get dressed up smartly (there will be some peasants who wear jeans), but it's worth the effort.

Our grad ceremony was in Nov - so anyone who needed to resit can graduate with the rest of us.

Was a great day - photographs with the family, meeting the dean and others associated with the Uni (Sir Robert Winston is associated with our uni), so he was there, meeting people and spending time with your mates.

You'll probably have someone who has been given an honorary degree, so they might be there doing a speech, accepting that.

Enjoy it while the day lasts, but it really is something to be proud of. I wasn't too bothered about mine before hand, but when the day came around, i was really excited.

Got there early to meet with mates, went and got gown/hat and had pictures done with the family, then waited outside with mates and had a few drinks/took some pictures before we went in.

Family usually sit in a different area to graduates and they usually call people up in degrees (they don't call out your classification - or they didn't at mine) and they will usually say if you/others have been put forward for a special award. You usually queue up with the rest of your degree (or as in my case - own my own, as i was the only one who did my specialisation, but i was just behind the planners), you go on stage, shake hands with whoever is there (and talk to sir rob in my case - was chatting with him for about 3 mins, whilst i could feel the whole hall staring at me :shocking: ), then walk to the other side, shake some more hands, then walk off back to your seat.

Then after it's finished, more photo ops with mates, out for a meal with the family, then out to get slightly drunk that evening:yippe: and to celebrate with friends!

It's something you should be proud of, whether you do another course or not, enjoy it and don't let anyone spoil it for you!

Ahh you'll be fine - just don't think about tripping etc, cos the more you focus on it, the more it will be likely to happen! :nervous:

You're on stage for a matter of seconds, so you got no need to worry about being shy

expect to have a day which your really excited about, which is nice end to our studies, with everyone happy and proud. it's nice to see everyone and get together, etc. but the day, besides walking up on stage to collect your fake degree certificate (most universities give the real one at a later date), some parts of the day can be really boring - queing up to get your gown if you've hired it, listening to an important university person talking about the instiution and how well students have done, queing up for your photograph... there are a lot of ques and a lot of listening. but at the end you feel really proud and like you've really achieved something.
the best bit, is of course the drinks and celebration you have afterwards with your mates, away from the university... ;)

I've got a horrible feeling that my parents are going to make a hideous amount of noise when I go up to get mine; my mother's a wooping kind of woman......

Pretty much what everyone else has said. Try and wear something with a collar so your hood will stay on, take some safety pins for security. Also take hair grips in case your mortar board keeps falling off.
