So, it appears the sulky Frenchman has found his way to The City of Manchester Stadium for a whopping ?13M.

It's not the first time a sulky, charasmatic Frenchman has arrived at the gates of Ringway though. I do recall a certain Mr Eric Cantona, with an equal reputation for kicking himself in the foot. He went on to win nearly every domestic honour in the country. Anelka to do the same???

Im starting to sense some omens! Anelka, just like Cantona had been thrown out of the french national team due to his antics, maybe Anelka has more time to get back into 'les bleus' but its an omen all the same.

So, should we be commending Keegan on another masterstroke in the transfer market or will it all end in tears? It's a typical Keegan buy, very risky. But then a lot of his buys turned out quite well. We'll see come next May.

Anyway, as a Mancunian, and a Manchester United fan, i'd like to wish City all the best luck for next season, *restrains from making a 6 easy points gag*
Its great to have the best sporting city in England represented twice over in the Premiership, and sorta in the words of Eminem, It feels so empty, without City!

We're still gonna whip ure arses boys, that is, if we buy, 5 new world class defenders in the summer! <IMG SRC="smile.gif" border="0" ALT="icon">

A couple of other points! what is it with City and United rejects? Macken, Goater, Cooke, Schmeichel etc etc. You want Yorkie boys, cos we dont. Im suprised you havent gone for David May, Ronnie Wallwork (great player, totally under-rated), Ronny Johnsen and Denis Irwin yet. And if it's not former Man Utd players, you buy players who used to torment us, ie, Anelka, Wanchope. I think you've got too many strikers already. You can stop your anti-ManU buying campaign....lol.

One last thing, Commentators, PLEASE, stop driving Mancs to despair. Dont ever call Manc Clubs just "Manchester" or we'll have to start refering to Chelsea, Fulham, West Ham, Arsenal and Tottenham as London!!! Get the idea!!!!

To compare cantona with anelka is ludicrous

Now, on what do you base your claim Manchester is Englands premier sporting city <IMG SRC="confused.gif" border="0" ALT="icon">

And I agree with ebb- how can you even mention Anelka and Cantona in the same breath

    Yeah, Cantona was crap.......

I think Anelka is an amazing player. He would fit in anywhere. He has electric pace and would be a good player to give through balls to, even if he misses lot, the chances he will get will put him alongside Henry, Nistlerooy and Hastlebank(SP?)

If he keeps his head down and keeps quiet he will keep Man City in the Prem and maybe shoot them into Uefa cup.

Schmeichal is also an amazing player and will earn his wages in saves, But I fear he may be on the way out if he is tested too much. At Villa he made their first half of the season but then the defence got creaky and Schmeichal was given very little chance.

Goeter will soon find his way back to the first division as he is definately not Premier standard. On the same note there is Wanchope, who as his name suggests is for the chop. He wouldnt even hold his own in Div 2 let alone Div 1

Sorry about second post seen Cantona comments.

He is not crap. he is/was a great player. Alongside Sheringham and Di Canio(not quite as good) they are among the best in their positions.

Anelka should never be mentioned in the same sentence as they are totally different players.

    Barthez and Schmeichal??
I would have to have the old Schmiechel.
But If it was today I would choose Barthez.

What basis is there for that assumption? Last season he was banging them in when he was fit and playing- I believe he is more than capable of holding his own in the premiership, when you look at some of the strikers scoring at teams like Everton, Southampton etc. I dont know how many games he will get with Anelka joining now and Huckerby and Macken on the books, but I think even if he does move on (which I doubt), there will be a few premiership clubs interested.

    Why is it ludicrous?
    only time will tell!!!

We got the commonwealth games, we dont fuck up when we build new stadiums. Rugby League, Rugby Union, Ice Hockey, Swimming, Boxing, Football, Cricket, Speedway etc etc. Manchester has the lot. It is the sporting capital of Britain, and thats not just my view, its the truth!

Right which aspect of Manchester City do you wish to discuss ?

There is no doubt Manchester has a good set of sporting facilites but,

    Rugby League, Rugby Union,

Ermmmmm, where exactley ? Hardly Twickenham to be fair <IMG SRC="wink.gif" border="0" ALT="icon">

Nor do I see any Manchester based team doing especially well

    Ice Hockey

Most of the UK's cityies have decent facilites, in Nottingham we have the National Ice Centre, which is better than anything you have, Wembley arena is also better than the MEN arena <IMG SRC="wink.gif" border="0" ALT="icon">
    Swimming

    You have a swimming pool, marvellous, well done <IMG SRC="rolleyes.gif" border="0" ALT="icon">
    Boxing

Aagin, there are better arenas than yours in this country, mainly Wembley arena
    Football

Even Liverpools sides were finished in better place than yours, London has 4 times as many stadiums, most cities have two.
    Cricket

Old Trafford been the worst test match venue.

Face it, your not as good as London and that is a FACT.

As for Anelka, he is a goalscorer and that is it, he's been bouncing around clubs like an unwanted smell, he will never be in the same class as Cantona, the fact Liverpool told him to fuck off adds to the argument, I'm sorry but I find it hard to believe someone who claims to know anything can compare the two. He is a decent premiership player, not a premiership great and he will never achieve that status with Man City.
he will keep Man City in the Prem and maybe shoot them into Uefa cup.

Maybe if the win the Worthington cup, otherwise they'll finish mid-table.

I have to agree on Goater he is rubbish.

So mancmanomyst, fire away on any tiny aspect you wish to discuss about Man City, we'll see who knows more <IMG SRC="wink.gif" border="0" ALT="icon">

OK OK I admit it, I am bias towards him after the goals he scored when City beat us 6-2 at hillsborough <IMG SRC="mad.gif" border="0" ALT="icon"> <IMG SRC="rolleyes.gif" border="0" ALT="icon">

But I just dont think hes TOO bad, misses a few I know but does stick a fair few away.

Manchester has state of the art facilities

    The velodrome
    City of Manc Stadium
    Belle View speedway
State of the art swimming facilities
Best football stadia in the country
    Good athletics facilities
The busiest Arena in the world.

We have everything, hence we got the commonwealth games!!!!

Manchester is an intensive hotbed for sporting passion

of course i know more about manchester than you, im manc born and bread!

London is better, that is not a fact. That's your opinion. FACT=Manchester is hoasting the commonwealth games this summer
FACT=London should have been holding the next athletic championship but that might not happen because the facilities arnt adequate.

As for Anelka, I personally think he'll be good for a 6 months then start sulking and disappear. Im comparing the Cantona situation with the Anelka one, not the players. Cantona is a Legend, Anelka has a lot to prove before becoming that. Im just exploring the possibilities ahead!
I naturally hate Anelka for 4 reasons.
    1. He used to play for Arsenal
    2. He used to play for Real Madrid
    3. He always scored against us
    4. I dont like him as a personality

Well, lets see, everybody across the country admits Man City have great loyal support, they make lots of noise.

Meanwhile at Old Trafford as the hundreds of coaches pull up (and don't say otherwise, i've been a few times) We are treated to a bunch of prawn sandwich eating, quiet, moaning, glory supporters.
