Cost of driving lessons

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Hi everyone

Just trying to find out how much, on average, driving lessons cost. If you've had lessons recently would you mind posting how much they cost?

Thanks so much!

Hannah :)

I had lessons last year... was £18.00 an hour... but that's because I had an offer; they would have been £20.00 without it.

It was £22 per hour for me, and I reckon that altogether I had close to 100 hours tuition. I would say it cost me around £2000 altogether. Not cheap, but neither is driving a car, after all.

I think it was about £16-18 a hour depending on which instuctor I was using at the time, but this was 2003/4/5 though.

ETA: That reminds me I havent driven for nearly three years.

Do you have to have a certian number of lessons or just keep going until you feel fine?

Have as many as it takes, though I think they're talking about making you do 100! I think most people pass before or not long after 40ish lessons.

£22.50 an hour with BSM in 2005-2006, but they made you book 2 hours in a go each time so it was £45 a time, twice a week. They're crap - I failed twice and it is clearly THEIR fault and not mine ;)

Oh wow! That'll get insanely expensive!

I think it was 100 hours, rather than 100 lessons.

Still expensive for people who can't get people to help them out with lessons. Personally though it's against the law my ex used to give me little lessons and I learnt far more than from a driving instructor who takes everything so fucking slowly I could have died of boredom. I think there is an art to dragging it out whilst still not teaching anything...

Yeah they upped the price of the theory test last year and now the actual cost of the test is going up too

Was paying 20 quid an hour, then obviously 30 for 90mins and 40 for two hours.

That was for a female private instructor though I'm on the lookout for a nice, young, fit bloke who's teaching. Might give me the motivation to start learning again
