My cousin is currently in Oz but making her way home cause she's been out there 11 months now. She sends us video diaries and she's had the best time! Although she went with her boyfriend they actually split up while out there so she carried on by herself. She's found it really easy to meet people and make friends and has done different bits of her 'adventure' with different groups of people. She's even spent a month or two at a time renting a little house with people she's met from England doing the same thing. Anyway, I guess my point is that it's been perfectly safe and she's really enjoyed herself <IMG SRC="biggrin.gif" border="0" ALT="icon">

Going it alone is the best way to travel. When you get to Oz, you'll find loads of other people doing the same as you.

It forces you to talk to other people, tell them about your plans and get some company for each leg of your journey.

Leaving the UK with old friends is good to start with, but you'll soon find yourself wishing you were alone. Of course this is not true for everyone, and it's nice to share these experiences with someone you care about. But at the end of day, sod them, them world is YOUR oyster... Get out there...Get that T-Shirt....And have all the girls to yourself.!!

Or as some soft bastard once said: 'Take only memories and leave only footprints.'

    Good Luck.

    Hello!

I'm heading off backpacking in Australia at the beginning of May. I'm going on my own, which is a bit scary but it's also very exciting. Would be great to hear from other people who are also going and perhaps we could meet up and travel

Australia is a pretty safe place to go (apart from all the crocs, snakes, spiders, jellyfish etc etc) but there are so many people over there backpacking that it should be easy to meet others and make some good friends.

Is anyone out there is also planning to go, get in touch - Mike24mk@hotmail.com

I'm hoping to go to Australia in late October, early November...to the Top End. Have a friend up in Darwin that I met over the internet, and I'm hooking-up and staying there at her place (no ideas sick people...her boyfriend is in the Australian Army). Connections are all good to have internationally. When are you going to Oz? Make sure (if the Top End) you don't go in Dry season or in winter (rest of Oz). Not as nice as it could be...especially for that amount of money!

Have a good time when and if you do end up going!

Hi Ali - well I think you'd be best to go to oz by yourself. I did - as I didn't have anyone to go with. It was the best thing I've ever done. I learnt so much about other people, but I also learnt so much about myself. Go by yourself & you'll meet so many people who are doing the same as you. Don't wake up in 10 years time & say I wish I'd done that, that would be you biggest regret.

Am gonna close this thread as it's so old - Stace, I suggest you start your own thread by clicking on the 'post a new topic' button in the travel forum - you'll get more replies that way. ;)
