They'll teach the course with the assumption that you didn't study it at A-Level because it is one of those rarer ones, like economics and law. Anyway, i didn't do it at A-Level and I love it at degree. It is my fave subject (I do three, combined honours!)but you've gotta be interested in the world and be open minded I think. Some topics like globalisation are really tedious cos they're so obvious anyway!
What else? Well, it is a really good subject which lets you think about your beliefs. Seminars are especially good because you find people with different views who re willing to defend them, which becomes very challenging to your patience!!
Anything else you want to know about it, send me a private message or just write on here!

hiya im doing a-level sociology and ive applied 4 BA sociology in 2002.

my knowledge of it is that (like already been said) they teach the course as if u hadnt been taught it at a-level.

if u have been taught it at a-level, in some unis ur allowed to skip the whole first year, or sometimes they make u do some other modules from another subject.

Just out of interest, where have you applied? BA/BSc?

That's ridiculous if you are allowed to skip the first year- uni work is a different level from A Level. I did Law A level but I would still have to do the complete degree to qualify.

yeah but some unis it is just an introduction to the course, just what u would have done at a-level.

anyway, i would never want to skip the 1st yr because u only do certain modules at a-level. im doing crime and deviance, education, the family and religion but there r tons and tons of other modules that we havent done that u wud need to learn in the 1st year, plus it wud be in grater depth, so i dont understand it really, but thats the way it is 4 some places 4 sociology.

I'm doing an A-level Sociology and I enjoy it. I found the AS quite easy and I got an A, which I was surprised at, because I'd never done the subject before college. What did everyone else think of AS/A-level Sociology courses?
