Why can I hear church bells at 11:20pm?

Seems a funny time to be ringing the bells on the 24th.

Yeah that's the only reason I can think of to let people know they're opened for business

Why can't they just have the Bat symbol thingy

midnight mass begins at 11.30 so they're calling Christians in for worship

Well I might have been interested in going but I don't even know what direction the sound is coming from - The Bat Symbol would have been better.

Someone was saying some churches aren't doing midnight mass cos people come in drunk by then - dunno how true that is.

Some churches weren't. It wasn't too stop drunkards coming in as such, more for the protection of people getting home with drunk people around at 1am. Was mostly the ones in city centres. My local church was doing it at 11.30 as usual.
