Well, they say their choice is not a plaudit but Putin has had a lot of impact on the world this year

Part of the reason he would have been chosen is that his term comes to an end next year so they wouldn't really be able to give him the same honour next year.

Say what you like about the man and his policies but what Russia has become now compared with what it was when he took over is nothing short of remarkable.

To keep this thread going, if Putin hadn't won, who would you have chosen instead?

Quite.

He has made a remarkable achievement with Russia - the country was practically fucked when he took over. He's made an achievement only one other Russian leader has made - and he was also a Time man of the year.
