Network Storage

Just out of intrest whats the best Network storage unit?

I've checked out the Western Digital ones but they are $399+ And i hardly need 750GB! or 1TB!

I'm having a look around now and I would not touch Netgears one ever again! Its not vista useable =[

    If your not too concerned with power consuption, have you thought of getting an old, cheap PC off ebay for say £20, sticking a couple of hard drives to your needs/budget (possibly RAID for security) and using that as network storage? Plus you can use it as a download server-esque device, leaving that on to download stuff while your main PC/Laptop is resting.

    If power usage is an issue, how about using WOL and shutdown programs/commands to minimise it. I use this with my backup web server, i just click one shortcut on me desktop, and in 2 mins the server is ready, then another click on a different icon and its off again.
